A former English teacher in China, Krista’s travels eventually brought her back to her birth country where she, along with friends Dallas Begnaud and Michael Rice of Houston, started Ship to Shore, an acoustic rock band. After a nine-month run in which they played primarily at coffee house venues, the band decided to call it quits due to mis-matched schedules and life changes.
After Ship to Shore dissolved, Krista started working on the piano-based songs she’d previously put on hold. Solo gigs materialized at music venues around town; she opened for Austin group Sad Accordions as well as Houston band The Methods, sang back-up for then indie musician Robbie Seay as well as Spencer O’Farrell and Gretchen Schmaltz, and began work on a trip-hop project with New Jersey native DJ Red.
On December 2, 2005, Krista released her first solo EP. The EP was recorded at Hyde Park Studio, produced by Seth Woods and engineered by Dean Vanderwoude. Contributing musicians included bassist Ryan Owens and percussionist Dan Hamilton, as well as members of Sad Accordions. Half a year later, Krista relocated to Philadelphia, bidding a fond farewell to her band and fans of Houston. Philly fans were good to her, but the siren song of the Republic was too strong to resist. She touched down in Austin in late August and is getting her bearings. Shows in 2008 forthcoming. Cheers!
